I met up with three of the girls from Fraser Island and went out for the night. I was pretty underwhelmed. I think Katie had given me high expectations and it didn't live up to it. I guess it's the end of the season so places were really quiet and closing early. Had a good night anyway with the girls and some stags!
The following morning I was due to get on my Whitsunday sailing boat! Yay! But woke up with an eye infection! Argh it was so painful! It was so bloodshot and you can't get drops over the counter at the pharmacy so I just got some moistening drops and hoped for the best.
I got on my boat at lunchtime and we set sail on the British Defender! It was nice as two different girls from Fraser Island were also on the boat. The boat held 28 people and it was full. Everyone was really nice and from all over.
We set sail and made our way to Ravens Cove and went snorkelling. It was supposed to be the best place to see sea turtles but I didn't see one. The snorkelling wasn't amazing either. The reef looked dead and not so great. But great surprise we got back on the boat and had masses of nachos! Swimming makes you so hungry so I definitly had my fair share! We set sail for our overnight moring point in Hook Passage. We had another amazing meal and watched an awesome sunset.
My eye was so painful and I was still tired from my two previous short nights, I went to bed really early. I had the tiniest bed which was squashed up behing the toilet, but I had a window above me so I could see the stars and get some breeze, and also a face full of rain in the night!
Day two was up bight and early to set sail at 7:00. This was to get us to Whitehaven Beach bright and early. This is the holiday brochure picture perfect place of the Whitsundays. So beautiful. The sand is so white and felt cold to walk on which was so strange. It would also squeak when you walked on it as it was so fine.
We spent a few hours on the beautiful beach.
It's easy to see why it's one of the top ten beaches in the world. We then sailed to Blue Pearl Bay for snorkelling or scuba diving. I went scuba! Yay! It was cool but gutted that I wasn't allowed to take my underwater camera. It was a super short dive but saw lots and the coral was spectacular.
We then sailed to our overnight moring location of Stonehaven. Again there was another spectacular sunset and a great meal.
I was planing on sleeping outside on deck tonight, but it started to rain so plan cancelled! It was also so windy and we were rocked around all over the place. The sound of the ses tank slopping around is a sound I won't forget quickly! The winds were from the beginning of a cyclone, cyclone Ita which was due to hit the very north org Queenaland at some point. We had a very fast and racy sail back to Airlie Beach. It's quite disconcerting when the rails of the beach are in the water as you are tipped over so much!
This trip wa definitly the highlight of my Australia trip so far. I would love to come back and do it again with better eyesight!
I went to the opticians when I got back to Airlie as I finally had a mirror to look in and could see a white spot on my iris which can't be good. The optician said I had a corneal ulcer, nice! I got some antibiotic drops and need to visit another optician as soon as I get to Cairns. It sucks! And need to find out how to claim on my travel insurance!
